Croatia (Entrepreneurship)

The FYI-R workshop in Gospić, Croatia, brought together high school and university students to reflect on the future of entrepreneurship in the Lika region. Rooted in the legacy of Gospić Vocational School and the “Nikola Tesla” Polytechnic, the region offers training in diverse fields — from engineering and economics to tourism and agriculture — laying a foundation for entrepreneurial potential.

Both youth groups expressed optimism about the future, envisioning a revitalised Lika driven by young entrepreneurs, local production, and sustainable tourism.

The Blue Team (ages 15–17) emphasised the need for state investment, particularly in agriculture and creative industries, and called for policies that actively support youth-led business initiatives. They advocated for education that connects cultural heritage with entrepreneurial opportunities and stressed the importance of modern technology and digital literacy in enabling young artisans and innovators.

The Green Team (ages 18–29) focused on systemic change, highlighting the need for fair distribution of EU funds, stronger laws, and youth representation in decision-making. They see tourism as a catalyst for broader economic development, including crafts, agriculture, and construction.

Entrepreneurship, in their view, is a vehicle for self-expression, community building, and economic resilience. Despite their hopeful outlook, both teams identified barriers: lack of financial support, fear of failure, unfair competition, low digital literacy, and political inertia.

Concerns about corruption, market ruthlessness, and an education system misaligned with labour market needs were also raised. To thrive, young people need access to funding, mentorship, modern infrastructure, and platforms for collaboration.

They seek freedom to shape their own futures—whether through creative industries, agriculture, or tourism—and want entrepreneurship to be a respected, supported path. Their vision is clear: with the right resources and inclusive policies, Lika can become a vibrant hub of youth-driven innovation and sustainable development.
